Benefits and disadvantages
There are both benefits and disadvantages to completing an online law degree. Benefits include scheduling convenience, no need for a residency requirement, and the ability to avoid a lengthy and costly commute to a college campus. While these benefits are attractive to prospective online law degree students, there are also some drawbacks to complete your legal degree online. Some online law degree program schools are not accredited, which means that you cannot use federal financial aid for attendance. Non-accredited programs may not be looked very favorably upon by potential employers. Not all programs are approved by the American Bar Association. Most law firms require graduation from an ABA-approved online law degree program if you want to practice law in the United States. Completing school at home is appealing, but once the semester has started, students may find the isolation distracting and have a difficult time focusing enough to review course materials and assignments.
