Six Sigma training

Six Sigma is a process that helps managers and other business professionals improve business performance. The process is built on the principle that businesses can understand and control variation, which will help decision makers better predict what will happen. Many companies have used Six Sigma to save substantial sums of money, including General Electric. The company realized $2 billion in savings in one year alone, using the principles of Six Sigma. The Six Sigma Process involves several steps, all of which have training programs available.

Step zero
Step Zero is the step that must take place before someone actually becomes involved with Six Sigma. Participants must develop a business project and have it approved by their company's leaders before training can begin. Projects must last for four to six months to meet the requirements of Six Sigma.

Green belt
The Six Sigma green belt applies to project leaders who participate in Six Sigma training for two weeks. The training focuses on the use of the Six Sigma Roadmap and also on the use of statistical methodologies. The project for a green belt must have a value of at least $50,000 and be aligned with organizational objectives. Green belts must also spend 50% of their time on the project for the four to six month time frame.

Black belt
The Six Sigma black belt applies to project leaders who participate in Six Sigma training for four weeks. Like green belt participants, black belts focus on the use of the Six Sigma Roadmap and statistical methodologies used in the Six Sigma process. Black belt projects must be value at $100,000 or more and participants must devote 75% of their time to the projects during the four to six month time frame.

Master black belt
The master black belt program is for participants who have mastered both the black belt and green belt levels and have a high level of project management experience and proficiency with statistical tools. Master black belts mentor six green belts and six black belts and are often chosen to be leaders in their own organizations.

Champions
Six Sigma Champions are people who sponsor projects that align with the business goals of their organizations. Champions mentor and guide six people participating in the black belt or green belt programs, and they also help to implement the Six Sigma launch into their organizations.

Six Sigma has become very popular since its inception because of the amazing results many easily recognized companies have had by using the process. People who excel in Six Sigma often have extensive prior project management experience and at least some understanding of statistical tools. Without a solid statistical foundation, Six Sigma training may be too difficult for some people to grasp.

If you're searching for a Six Sigma training program, there are many to choose from. Some sites offer consulting, while others offer extensive training programs for companies who want to introduce Six Sigma into their organizations. When looking for a consultant or training firm, before to base your final decision on reviews from former clients, not on who has the best marketing materials or flashiest Web site.
